Les Rives de Vézère

French Welness

When you stay in Les Rives de Comborn discover the rural life around you, you also become part of the Vézère Valley. This area is very popular in Dordogne and extends here into Corrèze. There are several places not far from the house where you can swim in the river besides access of the garden itself, walk in the woods and if you like day trips, there is much more to discover

Comborn is located in the hart of the popular Vallée de la Vézère. The logis is a great starting point to explore the many beautiful sites of the Corrèze and Dordogne regions and enjoy the culture and culinary offerings. It is 10 minutes from the regional village of Objat with a year-round Sunday market, three supermarkets, medical care, shops, a water park, bars and restaurants. The house offers you the feel of French life a la campagne.

In the 3rd edition of Leven in Frankrijk (2024), eleven pages are devoted to the Corrèze. Under the titles “La Corrèze sans touristes, the magazine tells stories about places and events in this region — mainly the southwest of the Corrèze, where La Chapelle Bellevue also happens to be located.
“In the shadow of the Massif Central, the Corrèze quietly remains true to itself. Sheltered from the cold northern winds, it feels more southern than its position on the map suggests. It is the kind of region where your pace naturally slows down.”

The article begins in medieval Uzerche, which proudly calls itself the pearl of the Corrèze. It describes the area’s beauty, tranquillity, good food paired with a fine glass of wine, and the remarkable sense of space. As an example, it mentions the capital Tulle (14,000 inhabitants), which feels more like a village with surrounding hamlets
Of course, I know that the more prominent nearby Brive‑la‑Gaillarde — awarded with 3 fleurs — with its 45,000 inhabitants (without counting the suburbs) and home to more than one-fifth of the entire population of the department (which covers an area one‑seventh the size of the Netherlands), is considered the unofficial capital.

The article also mentions that Coco Chanel spent her childhood in this region and learned to sew under the guidance of the nuns, and that the Corrèze is also the home region of French presidents Jacques Chirac and François Hollande.

From there, the article takes you through some of the beautiful villages that, as it writes, are “ready to be picked up” throughout the area. It highlights three of the six Corrèze villages included in the list of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France, a national selection of 179 remarkable French villages. Each is accompanied by stories, sights, and interesting places to explore.
It starts with the somewhat more touristic red village Collonges‑la‑Rouge, built entirely from unique locally quarried red sandstone. Then it continues to Beaulieu‑sur‑Dordogne and Turenne, crowned by its hilltop castle. The journey ends in the wilder eastern interior of the Corrèze. Naturally, these villages — and many more — can also be found on my own list of recommendations.

Having seen most of France, my impression of the Corrèze is that it is wonderfully peaceful, rich in natural beauty, home to many tidy and well‑kept villages and towns — something not always guaranteed in France — and filled with warm, friendly, and social people. The region lies at the southern edge of the Limousin — also the name of the famous, high‑quality cattle breed — and right beside the Dordogne, with which the southwestern part shares many similarities.
Thanks to its mild microclimate, this was historically the region where the first fruits ripened before the invention of the refrigerator, and from here they were transported to Paris.

It is absolutely worth visiting the Corrèze and enjoying everything it has to offer.

Nice climat

The Vézère valley is located on the west side the French Cetral Massif together with the Dodogne valley and other smaller valleys. All the valley's together make up for a large enough area to create a subclimate with many warm days and normal nights.

Because the location is on the river and in the valley, the climate is very pleasant. It cools down sufficiently during summer nights. In spring and autumn, it is very sheltered and cools down less quickly.

Birds & Butterflies

Enjoy the soothing sound of the many different species of birds every day.
Many species of small birds but also woodpeckers, cuckoos, falcons, sparrow hawks, owls and several buzzards. Its location in the wide valley with thermal winds makes it an ideal place for breeding and migratory birds throughout the seasons.
